Ijen Crater

 Ijen Crater or known as'Kawah Ijen'is largely recommended to mountain suckers and trampers. The Plateau was at one time a huge active crater, 134 sq km in area. Ijen is a quiet but active flash point, and the geography is dominated by the stormy cones of Ijen ( asl) and Merapi ( asl) on the northeastern edge of the Plateau, and Raung ( asl) on the southwest corner. The articulation is a source of sulfur and collectors work then, making the journey up to the crater and down to the lake every day.


There are numerous beautiful species of shops that can be plant there, similar as; the edelweiss flower and the Casuarina Junghu (cemara gunung), etc. Colorful creatures can also be seen in the area like jungle fowl (ayam hutan) and porcupine (landak).

The Ijen Crater lies about 68 km from the city center. There are some of installations then similar as a hutment, a sanctum and Tourist Information Center (TIC) etc.



The stylish time to enjoy the crater decor is at morning, when the unheroic sun glows the unheroic water and shines the girding mountain like mount Merapi, the family of Mount Ijen. Morning haze is creating a tranquility that we do n’t get at the metropolitan municipalities. At 2 pm, the crater is closed for the reason that the thick bank from the crater that's toxic.

Get Around

You can take a walk for about 1-1.5 hour to the crater hem.

Get There

The Ijen Plateau can be reached through Bondowoso from either the northern or the southern seacoast. It's near to Banyuwangi, but the road is veritably steep and poorly deteriorated. A 4 WD is essential, although delicate to hire in Banyuwangi and outrageously precious. Utmost people walk the last 8 km (from about 64 km) along the road to Pos Paltuding (the PHPA Post, the starting point or the journey to the crater) from Bondowoso.
