Sorae Ecology Park is located near
Incheon, a city on the outskirts of Seoul, South Korea's capital. 77, Sorae
Ecology Park, Namdong-gu, Incheon, Sorae-ro 154beon-gil Sorae Ecology Park was
once a salt manufacturing facility. Then, by retaining its original form, a
muddy beach, it transformed into an ecological park. During Japan's colonial
period, the salt field was developed. In 2009, this land was transformed into an
environmental park, which opened to the public.
The salt plain, mud flat, and marsh
in this park serve as a habitat for migratory birds and a home for many living
species. It allows for the viewing of a variety of marine organisms in the
marsh. It also features an exhibition area where you may learn about the
facilities where salt was once made. Visitors will be able totrail on the
wetland to see reed field and 3 windmills. Sorae Ecology Park is not far from
Sorae Port and Fish Market.
Although widely known for its
windmills, the area of Sorae Ecology Park is actually very large. There are
also amenities such as a foot pool and a small exhibition area. The best season
to visit is when the weeds are brown. In summer (around May-September), the
atmosphere is dominated by green.
Sorae Ecology Park is located in
Namgu-Incheon and can be reached by subway via the Incheon line Suin (yellow
color) which is connected to the Seoul subway line 1 or line 4.
The nearest station is Soraepogu and
it takes about 15 minutes on foot to get to the entrance of Sorae Ecology Park.
It's actually quite easy to find the place because there is a marking gate.
Unfortunately, this marker is only written in Korean.
Given the super large area, walking
is not recommended. There is bicycle rental at the entrance area at a rate of
5000 won per hour for regular bicycles and 10000 won per hour for tandem
bicycles.
Then don't be confused about how to
get into the windmill area. Just follow the main road, leading to the windmill
visible from a distance. There is a small door that only pedestrians can pass
through to get to the area. Bikes can be left at the door. There is no need to
be afraid of being lost, because Korea is very safe.
Sorae Ecology Park's opening hours are
10:00-18:00 and closed every Monday. No entry ticket. The best time to visit is
on weekdays before sunset for the best photos and a quiet atmosphere.
