Asgabat Cable Car

 



The Ashgabat Cable Car runs for 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) between Ashgabat and the Kopetdag slopes. In Turkmenistan, it is the first and only. On October 18, 2006, the construction was completed. At an altitude of 1270 meters above sea level, on the foothills of the Kopetdag Mountain range, the Ashgabat Cable Car station is located south of Turkmenistan's Main Museum.

In 2005, work on the project began. Bouygues, a French business, created this object. The total cost of the project was $20,5 million. Turkmenenergogurlushyk of Turkmenistan's Ministry of Energy and Industry is the customer. The project took two years to complete. The President of Turkmenistan, Saparmurat Niyazov, and the CEO of Bouygues, Martin Bouygues, attended the opening ceremony on October 18, 2006.

The cable car can carry 300 passengers at once, for a total of 1,700 rides each day. Each of the 14 cabins sleeps up to eight people. The trip takes ten minutes. 16 cabins moving at a speed of 6 meters per second. Every 72 seconds, passengers are carried out. The cable car is 4 kilometers long.

At an elevation of 1270 meters above sea level, the sending station is located south of Turkmenistan's Main Museum. A waiting room and ticket office, as well as technical services and equipment, are available at the station. A modest park with space for 100 automobiles and 5 buses is located on a 6500 square meter plot. In addition to the arrival station, a structure with a total size of approximately 1,000 square meters was created, which has two restaurants and cafes, each of which can accommodate 280 people, as well as many shops and staff offices. A tourist helicopter pad, covered terraces and stairways, lanes, and an 80-meter-long water cascade were built in the community.
