The Dato beach area has been open since 1998. Since then the local government has been trying to fix this tourist spot to add to its beautiful natural panorama. In 2018, for example, Disbudpar Majene disbursed a budget of Rp. 1.6 billion from the Special Allocation Fund (DAK) of the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia in 2018 to build a number of facilities

Along the coastline of Dato Beach is home to a wide variety of crabs and shellfish, and a wide variety of marine fish. In addition, the waters off the coast are relatively calm. With all the advantages it has, this beach is suitable for all types of beach tourism, such as playing sand, fishing, to swimming.

In certain months, namely August to September, Dato Beach is always the location of the Mandar Tribe's traditional boat race, known as the Sandeq Race. This is a kind of outrigger boat that is propelled only with the help of the wind blowing on the sails.

To reach Dato Beach, visitors can use two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicles with a travel time of about 10 minutes or 7 kilometers from the center of the Majene Regency Government.

With the advantages of this beach, it is very good and suitable for various types of beach tourism, such as playing sand, fishing, swimming, snorkeling and diving. This is because the underwater conditions of the beach are still well maintained with natural underwater coral reefs. As for other supporting facilities, such as restaurants, changing rooms after bathing and toilets are also available.
